Women - God's Original Intent

Jesus is not your ordinary prophet. He descended from outside earth and operated outside the conventional world system. The message Jesus brought cuts like a sword. Join us as we look at some controversial topics through the lens of the life and ministry of Jesus.

In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity. — Rupertus Meldenius

  • We believe that women and men are created equal in the image of God.
  • We believe that full equality between women and men does not mean women and men are completely the same. There is a unique goodness and beauty represented in each gender that reflects the infinite wisdom and glory of God.
  • We believe that God raises up leaders for the church on the basis of grace, calling, spiritual gifts, obedience, and character.
  • We believe both women and men can and should lead, preach, pastor, and minister within the church.
  • We believe that when men and women lead together, there is a ministry of love and grace that is more robust than can be sustained by one gender alone.
  • We believe women and men can and should serve in pastoral leadership in the local church.

New Song Church believes that men and women are equally gifted and qualified to lead and serve as co-laborers in the church. We do not just permit, but we emphatically value the presence of both men and women at every level of church leadership—including the office of elder. We see this as both being in line with the teaching of the Scriptures as well as being practically helpful and wise.

Original intent

Genesis 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Colossians 1:19-20 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

In the grand narrative of redemption, Christ is the new Adam, bringing back the lost harmony of Eden. His sacrifice was the means by which all things are reconciled. This is the profound mystery of the gospel: through one man, all was lost, and through another, all is restored.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God created humanity, male and female, in His image.

The Trinity means that there is one God who exists in three distinct persons

#1 God the father

#1 God the Son (Jesus)

#1 God The Holy Spirit

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are co-equal in power, glory, and essence.

Genesis 1:26 let them have dominion

Genesis 1:28 Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it

In the Trinity, we see the essence of God being expressed through distinct roles. The Father initiates, the Son accomplishes, and the Spirit applies. Each Person of the Trinity operates in perfect harmony, serving one another in a dance of mutual love and submission. This relationship is a powerful example of how unity and diversity can coexist in perfect harmony.

Genesis 2:7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

God knew there was an enemy and there would be battles ahead and God didn't want Adam to face that enemy alone

Helper Fit - ezer kenegdo

Ezer = helper

Exodus 18:4 The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.

Deuteronomy 33:29 Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, and you shall tread upon their backs.

Psalm 121:1 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

The Hebrew word ‘Ezer’ for ‘helper’ carries profound imagery. The letters in ‘Ezer’ can be interpreted as ‘eye,’ ‘man,’ and ‘sword,’ suggesting a role that is both perceptive and active. Women, as ‘Ezers,’ are envisioned not merely as supporters but as warriors who bring both insight and strength to the fight. It conveys the idea that the task God has given is big and important and that a man is not capable of fulfilling his divine assignment by himself. He needs a partner who will spiritually, morally, emotionally, and missionally help to complement and complete him and his call. Only together can they truly reflect the fullness of the divine image.

Kenegdo = equal, suitable

"Kenegdo" indicates that "ezer" is the man's perfect match

“[Kenegdo] suggests that what God creates for Adam will correspond to him. Thus the new creation will be neither a superior nor an inferior, but an equal. The creation of this helper will form one-half of a polarity and will be to man as the South Pole is to the North Pole”
Victor Hamilton

In Genesis 1 and 2, the creation of woman is not about serving man but about serving with man.

Genesis 2:21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Etsem = substance' or essence.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

Keep - shamar = to guard or protect.

Genesis 3:16 Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”

Genesis 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.

Jesus came and broke the curse

Romans 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

John 19:33-34 When they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
