Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them,He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

The Spirit-filled life is not optional for those who want to live and work in the power of Jesus.

We Need The Help Of The Holy Spirit

John 14:16 I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper

Helper - Paráklētos - one who comes alongside to help as a comforter, advocate, and counselor.

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter who gives us peace in the midst of storms.

He is the Advocate who intercedes on our behalf before the Father.

He is the Counselor who guides us into all truth and helps us discern God's will.

You might as well try to see without eyes, hear without ears, or breathe without lungs, as to try to live the Christian life without the Holy Spirit. — Dwight L. Moody

The Spirit and the Word go hand in hand. If you trust the teachings about Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, you must also trust what Jesus said about the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16 I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper

allos - one of the very same kind; same character; same everything; nearly a duplicate.

The Holy Spirit is as gentle as a dove, as powerful as a mighty wind, but never weird. If we see behaviors that seem erratic or strange and people are blaming that on the Spirit, we need to step back and remember that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus—always gentle, always kind, always orderly. —R.T. Kendall

The person who benefits the most from you being afraid of the Holy Spirit is Satan

I Corinthians 14:2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

I Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

1 Corinthians 14:5 “I wish you all spoke with tongues”

1 Corinthians 14:18 “I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all”

1. Praying In Tongues Helps Us In Our Weakness

Romans 8:26-27 The Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

weakness - asthenia - infirmity, or deficiency

The Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should,

as we should - dei - as is necessary

James 4:2-3 You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

To Receive From God In Prayer:

1. You Must Ask.

2. You Must Ask According To God’s Will

1 John chapter 5:14-15 This is the confidence that we have in him, hat if we ask anything according to His will God hears us. And if we know that God hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

en -in

tygchanō - to hit the mark

hyperentygchanō - to hit the mark in the bullseye on behalf of another person.

The Holy Spirit's job is to make sure that we pray the perfect will of God and we hit the bullseye every time.

Romans 8:27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit intercedes for us in harmony with God's own will.

2. Praying In Tongues Plumbs The Depths Of The Unconscious

Romans 8:26 The Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words

The Holy Spirit intercedes for our groanings

The Holy Spirit knows the groanings of our hearts—the hidden cries we can't articulate. When we pray in tongues, it's as if the Spirit Himself takes over, communicating these deep-seated hurts directly to the Father. It’s a divine exchange where our unspoken pain is met with God's healing love. — Jack Hayford

3. Praying In Tongues Unifies Us

Zephaniah 3:9 For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, That they all may call on the name of the Lord, To serve Him with one accord.

Acts 2:2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Luke 11:13 how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
