The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Acts 1:4
“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the GIFT my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Spiritual gifts empower us to love people, bear God’s image, & build God’s Kingdom.

Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you...”

The Holy Spirit is an empowering gift from God to you.

Spiritual Gifts are divinely bestowed abilities given to every true believer in Jesus Christ in order to serve the church.

“Spirituals” = Spirit-tools.

In order for the ekklesia to be built up, every believer needs to rise up and be actively seeking the Lord and functioning according to the gifts that the Spirit has given each one.

Gift - Charisma(ta) = grace.

Spiritual gifts are spiritual manifestations of God’s grace

Spiritual Gifts are Spirit tools from God’s divine toolbox given freely to Spirit filled believers to manifest God’s power and help us accomplish every good work that God has laid out for us to achieve. 

1 Corinthians 12:8
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:

Spiritual - Pneumatikos = empowered by a breath of wind

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

The spiritual gifts of the church are for the good of the rebels as well as for the building up of those who are reconciled.

1 Corinthians 12:8
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

If we think only certain people have certain gifts available to them, then we are mistaken. The truth is, you will operate with the Holy Spirit in a particular gift or couple of gifts at a time according to God's will for a particular situation; however, every gift is available to every believer all the time because the Holy Spirit is not distributing inanimate objects. So you cannot have the Holy Spirit apart from all the manifestations of the Spirit being present, just as I could not have a conversation in person with you without you being present.

I. The Discerning Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:8
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,

The Discerning of Spirits is the ability to perceive quickly, whether such things as people, events, or beliefs are from God, or are demonic in origin

II. The Declarative Gifts

1. The Gift Of Prophecy

Prophecy is a message of encouragement from God to a person.

1 Corinthians 14:3
But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

1 Corinthians 14:31
For you can all you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.

III. The Dynamic Gifts

1. The Gift Of Faith

A supernatural impartation of belief and confidence for a specific situation.

2. Gifts Of Healings

Supernatural enablements given to a believer to minister various kinds of healing and restoration to individuals through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3:6
Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

Psalm 103:1-3
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

3. Working Of Miracles

With this gift, God provides the ability to demonstrate the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, and confirm the superiority of the reign of the kingdom of God over spiritual darkness, and even natural law.

Love should be your guide. Be eager to have the gifts that come from the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of prophecy.

Having spiritual gifts in operation in our life is not about me being better than you; it’s about me being better for you.
